Large scale housing estates

In order to reduce the housing shortage, large housing estates were built on the outskirts of Berlin from the 1960s to the 1980s. These include the Märkisches Viertel and Gropiusstadt in western Berlin. In the east of Berlin they are the Marzahn/Hellersdorf and Hohenschönhausen housing estates. Structural and technical deficits became apparent after reunification.
In the last few years a lot of money was invested: In the modernisation of building services, in measures to improve the living environment, in the promotion of local economic structures and projects for social integration and neighbourhoods.
We will discuss with you which areas and projects you will visit on this tour.
